Liposomal Technology Health Benefits
What is Liposomal Technology
Liposomes were discovered in the 1960s by Alec D. Bangham. Even though their effectiveness remains undisputed, it was their high cost of production that has been the predominant cause for not being used as active substance carriers, until now.
Specifically, for the first 25 years, it was employed almost exclusively by medical researchers who needed to deliver certain therapeutic agents to specific tissues. However, new ways of producing high quality liposomes on an industrial scale are now available.
Liposomes are made with essential phospholipids, in fact phospholipids are the basic building block of every cell membrane in the human body.
For this reason, liposomes are biocompatible and biodegradable. That means they are capable of being decomposed naturally from the human body, without any undesirable effects. Consequently, liposomes, due to phospholipids, are safe for the transport of vitamins and food supplements to the human body.
Each cell membrane requires millions of phospholipid molecules that literally allow life as we know it, making it possible for cells to exist and for body function. For that reason, liposomes can provide much more health benefits than the substances they carry.
With liposomal dietary supplements, we enable the body to replace damaged phospholipids with new ones, which will improve the health of cell membranes.
They are biocompatible with the body and fully biodegradable, as mentioned earlier. Their size and other characteristics, which are quality criteria for their biological and physico-chemical stability, are ideal to protect vitamins and other active ingredients from degradation in the gastrointestinal tract.
In other words, their distinctive property of maintaining a protective barrier around the active ingredients they carry is that which makes the active substances "resistant" to digestive enzymes, gastric juices, bile salts, intestinal bacteria, even to free radicals produced by the human body.
For this reason, they increase the absorption of vitamins and active ingredients they carry. This is their comparative advantage over other dietary supplements, such as tablets and capsules, in which the absorption is incomplete.
Additionally, liposomal technology does not use additives such as gelatins, coatings, binders, fillers, sugars, colors and flavors, to facilitate packing or ingestion.
Naturally, superior bioavailability
Doctor's Formulas Liposomal dietary supplements consist of phospholipid liposomes. In particular, we use Phosphatidylcholine, a class of essential phospholipids derived from high-quality non-genetically modified sunflower lecithin.
Their physicochemical characteristics have been researched by the Pharmaceutical Technology Laboratory of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Under the supervision of Demetzos Costas, Professor, Pharmaceutical Technology and Director in the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy.
We are proud that the research recently has been published in the prestigious scientific journal of Advanced Science, Engineering and Medicine (ASEM).
The Liposomal Technology offers maximum absorption, in a natural way!
Absorption is the movement of nutrients into the bloodstream. Bioavailability is the degree to which nutrients are able to be used by the body at a cellular level. The bioavailability of conventional dietary supplements, such as tablets and capsules, can be drastically reduced. It is well documented that their bioavailability is low enough, less than 20%, while liposomes are almost 8 times higher compared to other technological carriers.
Liposomal Technology is an alternative and innovative technology capable of improving health. Furthermore, Liposomal Dietary Supplements are appealing to the modern consumer, fulfilling their requirements.
Liposomal Dietary Supplements provide increased bioavailability and absorption. As a result they retain their quality and once they reach the target cells they are ready to start their action.
To sum up, Liposomal Dietary Supplements are:
- a superior carrier for vitamins and other active ingredients
- providing increased absorption and 8 times greater bioavailability
- biocompatible and biodegradable to the human body
- offering much more health benefits, since they are replacing the damaged phospholipids with new ones
